What info do I need to connect via FTP?

You need your username/password, server type: UNIX(standard), and domain name/IP address. Be sure to upload HTML documents and scripts in ASCII mode and images in BINARY mode, we do not recommend using the "auto" setting. To transfer a file to a subdirectory, double-click the appropriate subdirectory to open it before transferring the desired file(s). Unix likes filenames with no capital letters and no spaces in the name.

Can I use Frontpage with my UNIX account?

Yes, but FrontPage users should not use an FTP program for uploading your regular web pages, but rather upload such data with FrontPage itself. For more info on this matter, please refer to our FrontPage Support page. Of course, you may wish to obtain an FTP program in order to work on files outside of the frontpage directory structure, such as your cgibin directory or .mreply.rc. file.

For more information on how to use Frontpage with your UNIX account go here.

Where do I put my web pages?

For FrontPage accounts:
/YOURDOMAIN/wwwfp/ or
/YOURDOMAIN/frontpage/

Non-Frontpage accounts should have a document root of:
/YOURDOMAIN/www/ or
/YOURDOMAIN/

What should I name my homepage for it to load automatically when I browse to my domain name?

To make your home page load automatically, name the HTML document "index.htm" or "index.html" in lowercase and upload it to the DocumentRoot.

Where should I place cgi scripts?

If you have a custom CGI script that you need to use, simply upload it to your personal cgibin. You can utilize any directory except "cgi-bin" for your own scripts

What do I use to create a form on my website?

You can use either the cgiemail script or the webform.cgi script. FrontPage98-2000 users may wish to use a FrontPage-based form instead. For more info, click on the word, "Help" on the menubar of FrontPage Editor. Then select "Microsoft FrontPage Help".

Click on the "Index" tab. In the box, type "form". You will see a list of relevant topics.

What databases can I use with my UNIX account?

The main databases available on our system are mSQL and mySQL. They can be accessed via PHP (probably the most widely used method) or via the mSQL prompt via telnet or mysql prompt via telnet (If you want to try this, get the docs first!).

How do I create a database?

We have to create the database for you. Just fill in our Tech Support Request Form, requesting that a database be setup (please specify whether you want mSQL or mySQL). Please include your userid and password in the correspondence. The name of your database will be the prefix of your domain name.

For example, if your domain name is xyz.com, the name of your database will be: xyz
